Taylor Massey - Clarinet

Taylor Massey is currently in his ninth season as principal clarinet with Symphony Orchestra Augusta. Mr. Massey has been a featured soloist with Symphony Orchestra Augusta on multiple occasions, Savannah River Winds, Carolina Youth Symphony Orchestra, North Georgia Chamber Orchestra and Georgia Regents University Wind Ensemble. He is in demand as a performer and instructor in the southeast region with the Lyra Vivace Chamber Orchestra, Augusta Opera, Augusta Choral Society, Greenville Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus. He has been a featured guest artist on many recital series in the area. In regards to chamber music, he has performed for the Westobou Arts Festival and with the Massey Duo. He has also presented many chamber performances around the United States and outside of the country in places such as Morges, Switzerland and Lucca, Italy.   Mr. Massey has previously served on the faculties of the University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music, Augusta University, Claflin University, University of South Carolina in Aiken, and served as visiting instructor at Georgia Southern University. His principal instructors have been Alan Kay, Steven Cohen, Russell Dagon, and Ronald de Kant. He has received bass clarinet instruction from Ronald Aufmann of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and J. Lawrie Bloom of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Massey earned a bachelor’s degree in clarinet performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a master’s degree in clarinet performance from the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts at Stony Brook University.
