Katy Byrd - Acting Principal Viola
Katy Byrd has spent most of her adult life as an active freelance musician in the Kansas City area, where she has enjoyed playing in as many pits and regional orchestras as possible whilst working full-time as a public librarian.
The sudden paralyzing lack of joy and excitement that occurred in 2020 when all of her ongoing music work ended prompted her shift of priorities and her return to music school. Katy has recently completed the first year of the DMA program at UW-Madison, where she studies with Sally Chisholm.
Outside of music, Katy reads a lot of fiction, takes her cat for walks, and dabbles in skydiving. This is her first summer with the Lake Placid Sinfonietta.
