Daniel Merriman - Double Bass

Daniel Merriman is a double bassist and educator who resides in the Hudson Valley region of New York state. Daniel holds a Masters of Music degree from SUNY Purchase, a Bachelors of Music degree from the Hartt School at the University of Hartford and pursued further studies at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. His primary teachers include New York Philharmonic principal bassist Timothy Cobb and soloist Robert Black.  He has also studied privately with Metropolitan Opera bassists Leigh Mesh, Lou Kosma and soloist James VanDemark.

 

Daniel is a member of the Reading Symphony Orchestra and regularly performs with the Allentown Symphony, Lancaster Symphony and Albany Symphony as well as the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, Pennsylvania Philharmonic and the Endless Mountain Music Festival Orchestra.  He has performed with the Hartt Bass Band at the Bang on a Can Marathon in New York City and can be heard as principal bass on Lee Hoiby’s recording of his opera The Tempest,on Albany records. Daniel is a two-time participant of the Festival Institute at Round Top in Round Top, Texas and in 2006 attended Karr Kamp with Gary Karr in Victoria, British Columbia. In addition to his performance engagements, Daniel also maintains private teaching studios in the lower Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey and has held faculty appointments at the New York Music School in Tenafly, NJ and the Rutgers Extension Division at the Mason Gross School for the Arts
